Me & Hill

It is my second week at work, and it is Friday "Jeans" day, when, with very little warning we are told Hillary Clinton is coming to speak to us.
It becomes standing room only and before long not even room to stand so my office makes their way forward to sacrifice themselves by sitting on the floor ahead of the front rows. She was late. My butt hurt. It was jeans day but I didn't wear jeans I wore a rugged skirt...not many positions to sit in, in rugged skirt. Not ever having been much of a Hill fan, I found myself thinking "this better be worth the butt pain... smile through it, smile through it" Here we are, waiting on Hill.... and waiting, and waiting....
Finally she arrives.
She shakes many hands on her way up to the stage.
Hill shakes my hand. They put it on CSPAN.

Hillary looking rather stately.
Hillary speaks. She says she is going to get us the resources we need to do our job right. She says lots of things. She is well-spoken. A true stateman...er statesperson.

(Umm yes, the actual handshakes are recorded on the video)

Hill handshaking. The People's Hill.

More handshaking on her way down from the stage.
Me handshaking again.
They put it on CNN headline news.
Am now regretting rugged skirt.

Inauguration

My photographic journey of the 2009 U.S. Presidential Inauguration

January 20, 2009

0600 hrs EST - board metro at King Street Station bound for the district

M & I go over the map to determine our best route to the yellow ticket holder gate, and back-up route given that they continue to announce station closures

0800 hrs exit at recently re-opened South Capital metro stop

0825 Still exiting at South Capital Metro stop

0910 finally arrive at the end of the yellow ticket holder line... merged with the purple ticket holder line... right, that was a line and no it was not moving

People are still in good humor

T looks reasonably worried that we might not make it the full distance to the capital (seen behind her in the distance)

0955 Yes, we finally made it to our spots, and yes I am happy to be there but my frozen lips are having trouble cracking a smile...
0959 Obama arrives to cheers

1015 Obama gives Inauguration speech... he says he's humbled

FACES OF THE INAUGURATION

This is my favorite part, just looking at the people and capturing their reactions, this is where I got to really try my photography skills, rather than just stick my camera in the air and shoot as I had been in the huge crowds.

1055 The happy inauguration gang: We were some of the lucky few to receive tickets and the even luckier few that somehow made it through the madness to the capital lawn for the whole ceremony

A most important post!

So, yes... I have moved countries (via visits to several other countries) visited all my family for the holidays despite snow storms, canceled flights and really really slow Amtrak trains... finished up my final report for grad school (all 65 glorious pages) and can now say that I am officially the owner of a brand spanking new MBA (and a whole lotta debt), and have started a new job... not just any job but a job that I am nearly certain I can say that I do and will love and in just two short weeks in that job I have exciting little tidbits about satellite phones, diplomatic passports, and what's going down in Sri Lanka or Sudan... and on an on... I could talk in more detail about all of that stuff but really now, let's get to the more important things in life... cookies.
